Ten days before a scheduled heart surgery, Kenley Jansen was at Dodger Stadium giving back to fans on Friday.

Jansen, who spent 10 days on the disabled list in August due to an irregular heartbeat, will have surgery on Nov. 26, he said on Friday.

“It’s health first and make sure everything is good,” Jansen said. “I want to be back healthy and perform here again and try and help the Dodgers win ballgames.”

Jansen took part in a longstanding tradition as the Dodgers, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) and team partner Smart & Final hosted the 14th annual Community Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway at Dodger Stadium. Jansen, Dodger alumni Ron Cey and Dennis Powell and volunteers handed out a complimentary turkey (or vegetarian alternative), fixings and reusable canvas bags to 1,200 pre-selected families and not-for-profit community organizations who will in turn distribute them to Los Angeles-area families in need.

“We all understand how hard it is in life. When you see people working hard, struggling out there, if we can do stuff like this and make people happy that’s what it’s all about,” Jansen said.
