Cody Bellinger named 2019 Rawlings Gold Glove Award finalist

by Rowan Kavner
Cody Bellinger has been named a finalist for a 2019 Rawlings Glove Glove Award.
While putting together a potential MVP season at the plate, Bellinger led all qualified Major League right fielders with 19 defensive runs saved and all qualified National League right fielders with a .990 fielding percentage. He also ranked second among NL right fielders with a 9.5 ultimate zone rating and 10 outfield assists.
Bellinger played 911 1/3 innings in right field this year, as well as 230 innings at first base and 170 2/3 innings in center field.
“I do think Cody should win the National League MVP,” manager Dave Roberts said in September. “…That encompasses in the batter’s box, the runs scored, the runs driven in, the homers, the impact that he has. Defensively, he’s going to win the Gold Glove in right field this year — could’ve won it at first base or in center field. The versatility he provides is very valuable.”
The Gold Glove Award highlights the best individual fielding performances at each position in the National League and American League.
Rawlings has highlighted the top three defenders at each position in each league as finalists. Bellinger, Bryce Harper and Jason Heyward are the NL finalists in right field.
Winners will be revealed on ESPN on the night of Nov. 3.
