Emmet Sheehan has been placed on the 60-day injured list and Kyle Hurt has been optioned, creating a spot for veteran relief pitcher Nabil Crismatt.

Crismatt, 29, has made 108 relief appearances over four seasons with the Cardinals, San Diego Padres and Arizona Diamondbacks, putting up a 3.76 career ERA. The right-hander led Padres’ relievers in innings pitched from 2021–2022 (145 2/3), putting up a 3.46 ERA in 94 appearances in that span.

The Dodgers brought Crismatt to Spring Training as a non-roster invitee, where he gave up five earned runs and struck out six batters in 5 1/3 innings pitched in Cactus League play.

Crismatt is an offspeed specialist, throwing his changeup 50.1% of the time in 2022 and 47.3% of the time in 2023. Opposing batters recorded a .212 batting average and a .327 slugging percentage against the pitch in 2022 when he had a 2.94 ERA in 50 games.

Sheehan made 11 starts for the Dodgers as a rookie and had a 4.92 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 13 games in 2023. Sheehan didn’t appear in a Spring Training game and began the season on the 10-day IL with right forearm inflammation.

Notes

  • Shohei Ohtani threw 40–50 times from a distance of 60 feet on Sunday in his continuing recovery from November elbow surgery. Roberts said Ohtani’s delivery looked good under limited effort.
  • Starting pitcher Walker Buehler made his first rehab start for Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday. He went 3 1/3 innings, allowed three hits, two walks, a solo home run, three runs (all earned), striking out two. Buehler threw 54 pitches/31 strikes and hit 95.7 mph on his four-seamer. Roberts said that he expects Buehler to make around four rehab starts before returning to the Majors, though he said the number is not “set in stone” and depends on the pitcher’s recovery.
