The Dodgers made their first trade deadline move Thursday afternoon acquiring left-handed pitcher Danny Duffy and cash considerations from the Royals for a player to be named later.

Dodger outfielder DJ Peters was designated for assignment to make room for Duffy on the 40-man roster.

Duffy has appeared in 13 games this year, including 12 starts, going 4–3 with a 2.51 ERA and 1.21 WHIP. He has struck out 65 batters with 22 walks in 61 innings. Injuries have limited him to nine appearances since the start of May.

The lefty went to the injured list May 17 with a left forearm flexor strain. He returned to action on June 23, making five appearances (four starts) before being placed back on the IL with the same injury July 20. Duffy had gone at least six innings in five of his first seven starts this year before his first IL stint. He allowed just two earned runs over 30 innings (0.60 ERA) his first five starts of the year.

The 32-year-old left-hander has spent his whole career in Kansas City since being drafted by the Royals in the third round in 2007. He made his debut in 2011 and has pitched in 234 games as a Royal, including 204 starts, going 68–68 with a 3.95 ERA and 1.32 WHIP while averaging eight strikeouts per nine innings. His strikeout total has ticked up in recent years. His 9.6 K/9 while healthy this season marked a career best.

The trade deadline is July 30 at 1 p.m. PT.
