The Dodgers acquired outfielder Billy McKinney from the New York Mets in exchange for minor league outfielder Carlos Rincon. They made room on the 40-man roster for McKinney by designating right-handed pitcher Jake Reed for assignment.

McKinney, a 2013 first-round pick of the Athletics out of Plano West Senior High School in Texas, split this season between the Brewers and Mets hitting a combined .213/.282/.415 with eight home runs in 79 games. The 26-year-old has a career .225/.288/.430 slash line with 26 home runs and three stolen bases in four Major League seasons with the Yankees (2018), Blue Jays (2018–20), Brewers (2021) and Mets (2021).

Rincon played in 63 games with Double-A Tulsa this year, slashing .263/.343/.470 with 12 home runs. The 23-year-old from the Dominican Republic has hit .244/.326/.467 with 84 home runs and 23 stolen bases across all minor league levels since beginning his career in the Dodger organization in 2016. He was signed as an international free agent in July 2015.

Reed made his Major League debut this season and allowed three runs (two earned) in 5 1/3 innings across six appearances (one start) for the Dodgers. The 28-year-old right-hander was a 2014 fifth-round pick of the Twins.
