Baseball America has honored legendary Dodgers scout Mike Brito as the recipient of the 2021 Tony Gwynn Award — the publication’s annual lifetime achievement award.

Brito has been an international scout for the Dodgers since 1978, and 32 of his signees went on to become Major Leaguers — most notably Fernando Valenzuela.

The 87-year-old, who still works for the Dodgers, was honored in 2014 as Major League Baseball’s International Scout of the Year. Brito, who is from Cuba, was also elected to the Cuban Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.

Baseball America’s story on Brito can be found here.
