The excitement that built with Friday’s transactions didn’t come without a blemish.

In addition to selecting the contract of rookie right-handed pitcher and Dustin May and recalling rookie right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin, the Dodgers also placed left-handed pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu on the 10-day injured list with neck soreness and optioned right-handed reliever Dylan Floro to Triple-A.

To make room for May on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred left-handed pitcher Scott Alexander to the 60-day IL (left forearm inflammation).

The Ryu injury doesn’t appear to be cause for concern. He said he woke up Thursday morning feeling discomfort in the right side of his neck that didn’t go away near game time Thursday night.

In an effort to get ahead of it and not allow it to affect his mechanics, Ryu was placed on the 10-day IL. Manager Dave Roberts said he only expects Ryu to miss one start.

This is the second trip to the injured list in an All-Star season for Ryu, who also went to the IL for 11 games from April 9–20 with a left groin strain. Ryu is 11–2 with a Major League-best 1.53 ERA this year. He compiled a 0.55 ERA in July.

“I don’t think it’ll be that big of a deal,” Roberts said. “But where we’re at and with his neck, we didn’t want to compromise anything.”

Gonsolin, who threw a side session Friday at Dodger Stadium, will slide into Ryu’s spot in the rotation Monday against St. Louis. This is Gonsolin’s third stint with the Dodgers, most recently recording a four-out save for the club on Tuesday.

As for the rest of the Dodgers dealing with injury, Alex Verdugo is back in the lineup Friday after missing a game with a knee issue. A.J. Pollock dealt with a minor groin injury Thursday but Roberts said he’s feeling better and could be used at some point Friday night. Matt Beaty is not in the lineup, but Roberts said he also feels better Friday after tweaking his back on a slide Thursday.

Five more games on KTLA 5

Spectrum Networks announced Friday it will simulcast an addition five Saturday Dodger games on local broadcast station KTLA 5 this season.
