Shohei Ohtani provided an update on his recovery from offseason elbow surgery and some encouraging news about his playing time.

The Dodger designated hitter said he would play in Wednesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox at Camelback Ranch, marking the first time he will play in back-to-back Cactus League games for the Dodgers. He went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the Dodgers’ 4–0 loss to the Los Angeles Angels at Camelback Ranch on Tuesday.

Ohtani — who is hitting .500 (5-for-10) with a home run and five RBI in four Cactus League games — said that he is satisfied with the quality and results of his plate appearances and is aiming to be fully ready to hit by Opening Day.

“I would say the hitting part of my rehab is over officially,” Ohtani said. “Now I just need to get more at bats, have quality at bats and be able to see the ball and get my timing down before Opening Day.”

While Ohtani continues to progress with his recovery, another Dodger slugger keeps running into pitches.

Dodger third baseman Max Muncy exited the game in the bottom of the sixth inning after being hit by a pitch in the right knee.

Manager Dave Roberts didn’t waste time removing Muncy from the game.

This is the third hit-by-pitch Muncy has recorded in Spring Training action. The first came on Feb. 28, when he was hit on his left hand in the top of the first inning against the Texas Rangers. He stayed in that game to play defense but was removed before his next plate appearance, and X-rays were negative on Thursday.

Muncy was hit in the back on Saturday against the Cubs but stayed in the game. He has hit .417 in Cactus League play (5-for-12) with two home runs and four RBI in seven games.

Notes

  • Starting pitcher Bobby Miller pitched three scoreless innings in his second Cactus League start on Tuesday, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out one batter. Miller has a 1.80 ERA in five innings pitched this Spring Training.
  • Relief pitcher J.P. Feyereisen saw improved results in his second Cactus League outing on Tuesday, striking out two batters and giving up zero hits in a scoreless ninth inning. He gave up four hits and two runs over one inning against the Cleveland Guardians on Friday.
