Ohtani’s powerful run ends with National League Player of the Week
by Cary Osborne
Shohei Ohtani is National League Player of the Week for his first time as a Dodger.
This is the eighth time in his career he has been named a Player of the Week — the seven previous times were as an Angel.
The Dodgers’ designated hitter batted .524/.583/.952/1.536 and went 11-for-21 with three home runs, seven RBI, three walks, six runs scored and two stolen bases across five games.
Included in the stretch was Sunday’s two-home run game and 4-for-4 performance. It was the 17th multi-home run game of his career.
He also hit a home run on Saturday — his eighth on the season and eighth as a Dodger — passing his manager Dave Roberts for most home runs by a Japanese-born Dodger.
Ohtani leads the Major Leagues this season in batting average (.364), slugging (.685), OPS (1.111), OPS+ (212), total bases (98), hits (52), doubles (14) and is tied for the lead in home runs (10).
