United States Air Force Brigadier General Charles E. ‘Chuck’ Yeager was the Dodgers’ Military Hero of the Game on Saturday.
After serving in World War II, Yeager held a 9-year assignment as the nation’s leading test pilot where he would become the first man to fly faster than the speed of sound. Saturday marked the 70th anniversary of that historic day.
Yasiel Puig’s RBI double off of the left-center field wall got the Dodgers on the board in the bottom of the fifth.
Charlie Culberson followed Puig’s double with a sacrifice fly that tied the game at 2.
Chris Taylor’s home run in the bottom of the sixth gave the Dodgers their first lead of the game, 3–2.
Puig extended the Dodgers’ lead to 4–2 in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run.
Culberson followed Puig’s home run with a double and was originally called out at the plate on Justin Turner’s single. After a review, the call on the field was overturned and the Dodgers took a 5–2 lead.
Kenley Jansen entered in the top of the eighth inning for a four-out save opportunity.
