Sandra Scully, beloved wife of Dodgers Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully, passed away Sunday at the age of 76 after a years-long battle with ALS.

She leaves behind her husband, Vin, children Catherine, Kelly, Erin, Todd, Kevin and Michael as well as 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

“We are saddened to learn of the passing of Sandi Scully, the loving wife of Vin and a dear member of the Dodger family,” said Dodger President and CEO Stan Kasten. “Sandi was Vin’s biggest fan and was always there in loving support of him at Dodger Stadium until she began her battle with ALS. She was truly Vin’s and the Scully family’s rock, and she will be dearly missed.”

Sandi was born Dec. 27, 1944, in Cascade, Virginia. In the early 1970s, Sandi met Vin while working as an executive assistant for the Los Angeles Rams. The couple married in November 1973. She was the wind beneath his wings.

Nearly four years ago when Vin was inducted into the Dodgers’ Ring of Honor, he said he was “totally and completely at peace” leaving the booth after his iconic tenure. Having Sandi by his side helped him realize it was the right time.

“Sure, I did it for 67 years,” Vin said. “It’s pretty hard to just turn it off. However, every minute that I look at Sandi in the house, I know I’m at the right spot in my life.”

The team of doctors and nurses at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center looked after Sandi during her battle with ALS. The Scully family expressed its special thanks to the UCLA team and the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The family has requested its privacy, and donations can be made to the Department of Neuromuscular Disease at UCLA/ALS Research in Sandra Scully’s name.
